NeutralZone

Eras: The war of the 3 kingdoms, The renewed Empire

Located in between the three major civilizations of Terran origin, the Neutral zone has at its center a large and dangerous nebula made of gas and free particles that can over time, disable most ships. Only the most advanced cruisers and battleships can dare attempt to cross it at its widest point.

Other than the nebula, many independent, human populated systems can be found. Some are nothing more than failed colonies with limited space faring technologies or even living in regressed levels of culture, others have planetary governments who have kept trade routes with one or more of the 3 Kingdoms.

Most of these systems were colonized during the era of sleeper ships traveling at dial-up speed. There is no formal border to the Neutral zone where there are no claimed systems, meaning that beyond the areas of space claimed by the Kingdoms or the independent colonies Galactic law is not enforced, and skirmishes will lead to no political consequences other than grudges between governments.

Systems in the neutral zone are protected from invasion by the Treaty of the 3 Kingdoms. A document of galactic law preventing the kingdoms from conducting military campaigns within the zone’s boundaries. The treaty also regulates some other aspects of galactic law such as trade and the complete ban of personal firearms and other ranged weapons of lethal nature, such as bows against other individuals of Teran Genome.

The treaty has multiple grey areas, one of them is actively exploited by Terran ships. The Teran Conglomerate only maintains a very basic military force, instead they rely on privateers (Pirates). The nature of privateers allows them to travel the neutral zone without provoking a war if they do not constitute a fleet.
